History
In 2001, two extraordinary friends from Hungary , Attila and Gyuszi decided to leave their country to try their luck in the New World . They combined their many years of bar experience from London and Hungary to open what was to be the best local bar in New York City . With just the shirts off their backs, they manage to construct an incredibly warm and cozy environment by hammering their fun spirit into every element of the bar; from the wood-burning fireplace to the vivid pictures on the walls.
When the KEYBAR opened its doors in October 2002, it quickly became a local favorite. In the next couple of years, the KEYBAR continued to establish a strong presence in not only the East Village, but all five boroughs by winning several “Best of New York” awards on Citysearch and receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews on Yelp!, Zagat and many other online city guides.
The KEYBAR is the home of the famous Rolo shot and many other delicious award-winning cocktails, martinis and shots created by owner/mixologist Attila whose inspiration was to satisfy the most demanding palates. The other key to the KEYBAR’s success is the great music played every day. By working with many talented up and coming DJs as well as established international DJs, the KEYBAR provides a huge variety of musical styles and trends from the 70s & 80s to the latest electronic and house music. The combination of tasty drinks, great music and fantastic hospitality from the owners, bartenders DJs and regulars makes an experience that will keep you coming back. See you soon.

For me, the KEYBAR satisfies my four greatest passions in life; Hosting, DJing, Mixologist, and Designing. When I see the looks of satisfaction from my customers' faces, I realize that the combination of these passions results in a sum that is greater than the whole.

Our customers always ask my opinion about what is the most important thing in bar business? Of course, there are many important factors to run a successful bar, but the most important one is to create a vibe, which is different from your day to day life. Someplace where you can feel as comfortable as you are in your own home, as relaxed as you are with your friends and family, as excited as when you are on a new date and as happy as you are on your birthday.
If KEYBAR achieved all this than I know I gave you something important, hospitatlity. I can’t imagine running my bar any other way.
